RIP Nick Adenhart (1986-2009)

It’s always tragic when a young kid has his life taken away for no reason.

I’m going to defer to ESPN.com’s report on the story, but allow me to quote Torii Hunter of the Angels:

“I’m in shock right now,” Hunter said. “He just pitched last night. It doesn’t seem like this is happening.

“This
is real life. This isn’t about baseball. This is his whole life, he had
his whole life ahead of him. He’s only 22, he’s still a kid. He was a
great kid, he was funny, he was very popular in the clubhouse and off
the field. People loved him.”

I’d personally like to echo the sentiments of Yankees Manager Joe Girardi:

“It’s sad. It really is. You think of a young man who realizes his
dream and pitches six shutout innings, and drives home and is gone.
Life is not supposed to be like that. I didn’t even know the kid and
it’s hard for me. He’s just a little boy who dreamed about playing in
the big leagues….Your
heart goes out to that family and that young man. You realize how
precious life is. You wake up every day and be thankful for what you’ve
got, because you never know.”

Please keep the Adenhart family in your thoughts and prayers in the upcoming days.

(Update 4:35 PM – I will update the blog tomorrow on today’s Pirates game.  I want to show my respects to Nick Adenhart and his family by leaving this post in its rightful place atop the blog for at least the remainder of today.)

So sad…a young life wasted because of someone’s carelessness.

my thoughts and prayers are with his family. Today is the 5 yr anniversary of my moms passing 4-9-04 and my best friend was killed by a 3x convicted drunk driver 12-6-04 in front of her moms home while getting wrapping paper out of her trunk her son watched as she was struck she too was only 22 . only difference is he got 2nd murder and is facing life in prison i hope orange county ups it and gives him the max for taking not just 1 but 3 lives and fleeing my bf killer tried to flee but hit a pole. again my thoughts are with his family

My thoughts and prayers are also with you, mslocakim@yahoo.com

That is a tough situation for any person to have to go through with both their mother and best friend.

If this person is found legally to be drunk, I hope he spends the rest of his natural life in prison for taking the lives of Nick Adenhart, Henry Nigel Pearson, and Frances Stewart.
